QEQM Hospital deploys aquavision automated monitoring

AquaCare Water Hygiene has installed an aquavision system at the Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate, Kent. The advanced remote Legionella monitoring system completely replaces manual temperature testing and paper logbooks, dramatically simplifying compliance with HSE ACoP L8 and Health Technical Memorandum HTM 04-01.

“It was the ease of operation and the peace of mind that sold the system to me,” states John Wood, Facilities Manager at QEQM. “I certainly wouldn’t go back to manual testing.”

ACoP L8 and HTM 04-01 compliance demands regular temperature monitoring across an estate’s water systems. At the QEQM, someone had to manually test water temperatures throughout the hospital every month and log the results. Logbooks are open to damage and being misplaced, which could see the Hospital fined for negligence.

AquaCare approached the QEQM with an innovative solution to the problem: aquavision. Developed by Radio-Tech, the aquavision system offers cost-effective water system temperature monitoring. Temperature measurements by wireless sensors are regularly transmitted to a web-based monitoring and management system, creating an automated paperless regime with increased logging accuracy and reduced manpower costs. Eliminating error and labour costs, the system provides a carbon-friendly alternative to paper-based reporting systems, and meets current legislation requirements by storing data for six years, providing protection against negligence prosecution. Combined with AquaCare’s in-depth Legionella knowledge, aquavision enables clients to maintain ACoP L8 compliance with increased peace of mind.

Having recently benefitted from a major development programme, including a new children's ward and state-of-the-art cancer centre, it made no sense to continue manual testing at the QEQM aquavision is installed throughout the hospital. Now John only needs to check the system online. He particularly likes the warning system: “I certainly wouldn’t go back to manual testing. When a temperature gets too low or too high, I get an email. With manual testing I would have to wait a month; by then it could be too late.” It really is that easy.
