AquaCare assesses MOD water hygiene in Cyprus

AquaCare Water Hygiene Services has commenced work on a seven-year programme of Legionella risk assessments for the Ministry of Defence. The programme involves over 450 buildings at British Forces installations across Cyprus plus training of local staff.

AquaCare is ensuring that all British Forces’ domestic water, process water and air/water systems in Cyprus comply with current UK water hygiene legislation, particularly the Health & Safety Executive’s ACoP L8 and Water Supply (Fittings) Regulations, 1999. These risk assessments identify areas of concern and any remedial works necessary to ensure and maintain on-going compliance.

Following initial site visits the company has also embarked on training local Cypriot staff to continue the risk assessment and review programme. AquaCare is underpinning the training with regular rigorous quality over-checks to ensure all procedures in the Defence Estates policy are being followed.

As part of Defence Estates policy instruction 37/2004, the Ministry of Defence is required to undertake Legionella risk assessments and reviews at all its establishments. Farrer Consulting won the contract to conduct these assessments and reviews across all MOD bases in Cyprus and called on the experience of its Biwater sister company AquaCare Water Hygiene to audit the contract.
